HERE ARE SOME EASY WAYS YOU CAN PRESERVE YOUR UNDIES TO MAKE THEM LAST LONGER
Properly caring for your undies mean they can stay cleaner and fresher for longer, saving your money and our planet! One Body Intimates is all about investment shopping, treasuring your loved intimates for as long as possible rather than the constant buying of fast fashion.
Handwash
It might feel like a big effort, but hand-washing your delicates will make the biggest difference to ensuring longevity. Particularly with more delicate fabrics like silk, lace or satin, a gentle handwash avoids tears and stretching.
Use a delicates bag when washing
While we always recommend handwashing your undies, we get that it isn’t always your most practical solution. When cleaning your underwear make sure to use a delicates bag so your finer fabrics can be protected and separated from the rest of the wash. It also helps to stop bacteria and odours from transferring to your other clothing.
Avoid harsh detergents
Always use gentle washing ingredients (or specialist textile detergents for each fabric if you want to take extra care) to avoid further damage to your intimates. Using harsh chemicals like bleach can destroy fabric and elasticity over time.
Wash on cold and gentle cycles
Try where possible to wash your undies on cold and gentle cycles. This avoids stripping your pants of colour, presents less risk of damage and also is more eco-friendly!
Avoid tumble dryers
While the toasty warm feelings of undies straight out of the tumble dryer is tempting, they do more harm to your intimates than good. Opt to let your pants air dry to avoid misshaping or shrinking. Hang on a clothes horse or hanger in their natural shape out of harsh sunlight which might fade vibrant colours.
Know when its time to say goodbye
No matter how well you look after your undies, there always comes a time to send them to the big panty drawer in the sky. If some pairs of your underwear have lost their shape or the fabric has started to deteriorate look to either recycle where possible or upcycle your old undies.
