How to measure for underwear

  • Find a material measuring tape – you’ll need tape made out of flexible fabric to get accurate measurements. If you’re really struggling to find one, you could use a long piece of string and make a small mark where the two ends meet, then measure with a ruler or normal measuring tape.
  • Measure your waist – wrap the tape around where your natural waistline falls (for those unsure, this is just above your belly button). Make sure it’s not too tight but also not hanging too loose. A snug fit without discomfort is a good happy medium. Make a note of the measurement.
  • Measure your hips – now wrap the tape measure around the fullest part of your hips, which is typically a little below your waistline. Again, make sure to wrap the tape nice and snug without being overly tight. Make a note of the measurement.
  • Assess sizing guide – now you have all the measurements needed to shop for panties, you can check the sizing guides of our various brands to find your perfect fit!

How to measure for bras

  • Find a material measuring tape – you’ll need one made out of flexible fabric to get accurate measurements. If you’re really struggling to find one, you could use a long piece of string and make a small mark where the two ends meet, then measure with a ruler or normal measuring tape.
  • Measure your band size – wrap the measuring tape snugly around the top of your ribcage, just below your bust. Remember not to hold your breath, as this may give you an inaccurate measurement. When the tape feels like it is sitting comfortably, take note of the measurement, rounding up to the next even number.
  • Measure your bust size – wrap the tape around the fullest part of your breast, again not too loose but not too tight. Make a note of this measurement rounded up to the nearest whole number.
  • Calculate your cup size – now for a little bit of mental maths! To find out your cup size, subtract your band size from your bust size. Here’s an example:

If your band size is 36 and your bust size is 39, you would take 36 away from 39 leaving you with the number 3. You can then use the chart below to determine your cup size based on this difference:

0 = AA

1 = A

2 = B

3 = C

4 = D

5 = DD/E

6 = DDD/F

7 = G

8 = H

9 = I

One Body Intimate’s top measuring tips

  • Ask a loved one or good friend to assist you. This will ensure you get an even more accurate measurement.
  • Make sure to take all measurements standing up, positioned with good posture for accurate measurements. Stand with your feet hip-width apart and your arms comfortably by your side.
  • Try to avoid measuring when you feel particularly bloated (for those who menstruate this may be during or around the time of your period) as it may give you inaccurate measurements. Although this would be a good way of finding out sizing for some comfy period underwear!
